Zach Got His P Pod — And More!

Zach’s campaign went far beyond the original goal. His community ultimately raised $4,915 toward adaptive equipment for him.

The first $2,834 fully funded Zach’s P Pod, giving him the safe, supportive place his family had hoped for. When it arrived, his mom shared photos of Zach relaxing in it and told us, “He’s digging it!” and that he looked “sooooo comfortable.”

That still left $2,081 in MobilityFunder credit. Rather than lose those funds, Zach’s family was able to apply the remaining support toward another important need — a Convaid Cruiser. Tadpole added an additional discount to help make the stroller possible, and his family covered the remaining balance.

One campaign ended up helping Zach receive two meaningful pieces of adaptive equipment, showing just how far a community’s support can go.

Zach’s Story

Let me start by saying thank you for reading this story about an incredible little boy. Our family is reaching out to try and get some help to purchase a new chair for Zach.

So let's start from the beginning...Zach was born at 29 weeks on October 28, 2015. We knew from the moment we met him he was special, but little did we know how special his life would be and how special he would make the lives of those around him. On day 14 of Zach's life he contracted a terrible gut infection called NEC (Necrotizing enterocolitis) which led to him losing 75% of his small intestine. During this, Zach suffered an extremely severe brain bleed causing what doctor's say is 96% brain damage. He was not given a very good prognosis for life.

Fast forward 4 years now!!!!

What!!!! Yes, I said 4 years (can't believe Bubs is 4 years old!) and we have the most loving, brave, and beating the odds kind of guy a mom and dad could ask for. Now don't get me wrong, these past 4 years have been the hardest, yet most amazing years of our lives thanks to Zach and we wouldn't change a thing. Day to day life can be a struggle having a 100% dependent little boy. Zach will forever live with epilepsy, cerebral palsey, short-gut syndrome and cognitive disabilities.

That being said, Zach is getting HUGE (he's off the chart currently for height) and needs a cozy and safe place to sit at home. That is where this chair comes in. And hopefully where you all come in. Without the love and support of ALL our friends and family I am not sure where we would be. If Zach wants to just relax currently at home, one of us has to hold him. After a while it gets hard and even Zach lets us know he wants to sit by himself. So we prop him up on the couch or the recliner, both of which ARE NOT SAFE (and we know this). One sneeze or muscle spasm and he folds over like a deck of cards. We love the idea of this chair. It will support him, but also be comfortable and fun. We have tried traditional bean bags, but he just rolls out of them. This has the harness system he needs to be safe and the structure to support him.
